The price may have been too high for teams to take Detroit Red Wings goaltender Curtis Joseph on Friday in the NHL waiver draft.
Each of the other 29 teams passed on Joseph, a three-time All-Star who has become expendable on a team that has welcomed back Dominik Hasek and would rather not pay a second goalie $8 million.
Since no one claimed him, it is likely the Red Wings will trade Joseph, who has played only one season with Detroit after leaving Toronto via free agency.

Twenty players did change teams Friday, most notably center Travis Green, who
went from the Maple Leafs to Columbus. The Blue Jackets then sent Green to Boston
for a sixth-round pick in the 2004 draft. Ticketmaster
A two-time 25-goal scorer, the 32-year-old Green had 12 goals and 12 assists in 75 games last season.
"Travis gives us additional depth at the center position," Bruins general manager Mike O'Connell said. "He is good on faceoffs and is a very reliable player."
The most active team in the draft was the New York Rangers.
New York picked three players - right wings Sheldon Keefe and Mike Siklenka from Tampa Bay and Philadelphia, respectively, and defenseman Joel Bouchard from Pittsburgh - and lost three others - left wing Ronald Petrovicky and defenseman Shawn Heins to Atlanta and right wing Jeff Heerema to St. Louis.
The Thrashers also took three players while three other clubs grabbed two.
Goaltender Jani Hurme was among the most notable, going from Florida to Carolina before being sent to Atlanta for a fourth-round selection in next year's draft. Earlier in the day, the Hurricanes signed free agent goalie Jamie Storr.
In addition to Petrovicky and Heins, the Thrashers took left wing Serge Aubin from Colorado and lost no one. Ticketmaster
Pittsburgh took defenseman Nolan Baumgartner from Vancouver, Toronto snatched right wing Petr Tenkrat from Columbus and Anaheim grabbed defenseman Todd Simpson from Phoenix. None of the four teams lost a player.
Nashville and Montreal both took two players without losing one. The Predators pried goaltender Chris Mason from Florida and defenseman Wade Brookbank from Ottawa. The Canadiens took left wing Darren Langdon from Vancouver and center Steve Begin from Buffalo.
Washington selected right wings Brian Willsie and Denis Hamel from Colorado and Ottawa, respectively, but lost center Glen Metropolit to the Senators. The Capitals also will be without top center Mychael Nylander for up to six weeks due to a broken leg.
The Panthers lost a pair of goalies but got back one when they took Steve Valiquette from Edmonton.
The first round of the waiver draft was limited to non-playoff teams from last season. During the round, no club was permitted to claim from a team in its own division.
No team could lose more than three players in the draft, unless it chose to offer more. Each club's three-player loss limit increased by the number of draft claims it made against other clubs. Ticketmaster
The draft concluded when a round was completed in which no club made a claim.
Atlanta had the first pick in each round.
