The Carolina Hurricanes improved their goaltending situation Friday, signing unrestricted free agent Jamie Storr to a one-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Storr collected just under $1.6 million last season, when he served as Felix Potvin's backup in Los Angeles, going 12-19-2 with a 2.55 goals-against average. He became an unrestricted free agent when the Kings opted against making him a qualifying offer.

The 27-year-old Storr has only played for Los Angeles, posting an 85-78-21 record
and 2.52 GAA over parts of nine seasons. He was the seventh overall pick in
the 1994 draft. Ticketmaster
Storr likely will back up Kevin Weekes, who last season took over for Arturs Irbe as Carolina's starting goalie. The Hurricanes also took goaltender Jani Hurme from Florida in the NHL waiver draft. Ticketmaster
The Hurricanes assigned another goalie, Patrick DesRochers, to Lowell of the American Hockey League.
Carolina opens the regular season Thursday in Florida.
